| Vysis CEP 7 | 7p11.1-q11.1 Alpha Satellite DNA | SpectrumGreen TM |
The LSI EGFR/CEP 7 Dual Color Probe is designed to target the epidermal growth factor receptor gene (EGFR) located at 7p12. The EGF receptor, alternately known as HER-1/erb-B1, is a member of the EGFR family. Also included in this family are HER-2/erb-B2,HER-3/erb-B3, and HER-4/erb-B4. The EGFR gene codes for a transmembrane glycoprotein with tyrosine kinase activity, which presumably plays a key role in controlling cell proliferation.
The LSI EGFR Probe is labeled in SpectrumOrange and covers an approximately 300 kb region that contains the entire EGFR gene. The CEP 7 probe, labeled in SpectrumGreen, hybridizes to the alpha satellite DNA located at the centromere of chromosome 7 (7p11.1-q11.1). This probe set is premixed in Hybridization Buffer.

Results of Hybridization
In a cell with normal copy number of the EGFR gene and chromosome 7, two orange signals (EGFR), and two green signals (chromosome 7) will be observed.
LSI EGFR/CEP 7 Dual Color Probe hybridized to a nucleus indicating greater than 24 copies (orange signals) of the EGFR gene and four copies of chromosome 7 (green signals).
