Sequencing

DNA sequencing is the process of determining the individual arrangement of nucleotides that compose a specific gene.  Sequencing mimics the basic process used to copy DNA in a cell during chromosomal replication and is a powerful tool for uncovering genetic information.  Abbott Molecular's portfolio includes several products that utilize sequencing technology to size DNA fragments of known diseases.  This process, called fragment analysis, generates a size estimate for DNA fragments relative to a size standard of DNA fragments with known lengths. The size standard is combined with the sample of interest and co-injected on a capillary electrophoresis system.  Abbott Molecular’s sequencing portfolio consists of infectious disease, genetics, and transplantation assays.
